Toddlers go to School ??!

Yes, you heard it right! Nowadays, toddlers do go to school as early as 1.5 years old. To the older generation, they’ll say that parents today are crraaazy to take their kids to school at such a young age.  And why waste 30-90k for your kids to run around and play for 2 hours!?!  🙂   But then again, is it really useless???

I don’t know. But personally, I think it’s good for toddlers to be exposed in a classroom setting (especially if you have a cute brat at home 😛 ). It teaches them how to interact with other kids and most importantly, teaches them how to share (more so for those without siblings). Taking toddlers to school enhances their social and motor skills. Even if we see our kids being very “bibo” at home or in family gatherings, it’s a different scenario when they’re amongst their peers. You’ll notice some kids having a totally different personality at home and at school.
Discipline is one more thing they learn in school. It’s good for toddlers to get used to having a teacher guiding them on what to do and following instructions at an early age to prepare them for the big school. Some kids only listen to their parents and have a hard time obeying/following instructions given by teachers or other adults. Or worse, some kids don’t even obey their own parents.

Recently, we had the chance to look into the Poveda Toddler Program (a year before kinder 1). It’s a 2-hour class from Monday to Friday. A class is composed of 15 students and 2 teachers. We toured the facility and liked what we saw.

Toddlers have their own gate so that they aren’t mixed with the hustle and bustle of the older kids during drop off and pick up time. The area near the white gate is where the yaya’s/nannies can stay and wait for their “alaga”.

From the walkway in the previous picture, leads to this white door on the upper right corner (seen in picture below). This is the front door of the Toddler classroom.

Here’s the other door leading to the kinder area.

There’s a small reading area where the floor pillows are.

They have their own toddler playground. Much much smaller than the kinder playground.

This is the kinder playground. Kids love looking at this as it’s soo big!

Toddlers have their own bathroom in the classroom. Very neat & cute with tiny sinks and seats.

There are a lot of toddler schools around Metro Manila. It’s just up to the parents on what their priority is in choosing the right one for their child. A lot of choices out there, a lot of questions like: Traditional? Progressive? Montessori? Big? Small? Christian? Etc…

The school mentioned above is just one example. Some schools are based in a house, in a building, etc. So for parents out there, just make sure you do your homework and look into several schools and find out what they have to offer.

I personally like where our child is studying now. A toddler school that’s not in a big school yet, but also not too small. For me, it’s just right for her age. What I love about it, is that parents can see the kids in class from a big window which is a one way mirror. I’m not ready to put her in a big school just yet (at least not until she’s 3 years old. I’d like to toughen her up first and make her ready for any “bullies”  or very spoiled kids in school ☺

So, yes, toddlers do go to school this day and age!
