A Trip to the White House and Washington Monument

Every time I’d watch shows like Madam Secretary, Scandal, American President, etc. with a setting in the White House, it makes me wonder what it (The White House) really looks like in person.  So on a trip to the East Coast, we passed by D.C. …

If you’re there just like us to get in, see the two landmarks, then head out right away, you must know what stops to take in the Metro.

First of all, we got the smart trip card to get on the Metro. More details on the metro here http://www.wmata.com/fares/smartrip/

Metro to DCAs we got off the Metro, we headed over to the Washington Monument.  If you like riding a bike, you can rent some on the street.  We got off the Smithsonian stop and walked around 10 minutes to get to the Monument.  Here’s what we saw along the way.

If you're going to walk from the Monument to the White House, that'll be a good 20 minute walk. Be sure you're in comfortable shoes.

And we’re finally here after a LONG walk.  You can take the bus, tourist pedicab, taxi, or walk for 20 minutes (which we didn’t know was that far). The White House

When I saw it, I’m like “this is it!???”  I was expecting it to be more grand in real life.  It seemed so tiny behind that fence.  I guess the trees blocking it didn’t help.  Actually, you could also see a good view of the Monument for picture taking from the White House.    So after taking some snaps, we headed back to the metro out of the city.

If you have more time to spare (unfortunately, we didn’t), there are more things to do like museums, shopping, etc.  Check this link to know more about getting around Washington D.C.

Here’s a map of the place to give you an idea where the metro is in relation to these two landmarks.

It also takes 10 minutes to get from the WH to the nearest Metro.

If you’re going to D.C, do your research first so you don’t waste time.  Enjoy!
